Right- or Left-Brained?

I've always thought I was both, but definitely more right than left. Watch this video and you'll have a good idea what your brain dominance is. If the dancer is moving counter-clockwise, you're more left-brained; if the dancer appears to move clockwise, you've got right-brain dominance. I actually have a balanced brain - equally dominant - according to the Brainworks test. That must be what makes me a logical artist ... say what?

Cabin Fever Cure

Every year around this time that old urge to get out and dig in the garden starts nagging at me. The snow is gone from our southern Pennsylvania lawn, and some days feel / smell like Spring is in the air. But wait, tomorrow it might be freezing cold again, and the soil is really still too wet and cold to plant anything. So, what's a gardener to do while waiting for April's warm weather? Well, one thing I used to do was sit for hours with the seed catalogs and plant wishbooks. Now I can do that and surf the Internet making plans for the garden that will be this year.

One favorite place to do this dreaming is the web site for Mr. Twitter's Garden and Gift Emporium. It's a mouthful, but it fits - the shop is several shops in one, including a wonderful garden of perennials, annuals and outdoor decor.

Although the shop with the purple picket fence is far from my home, it's not so from my daughter's house in Vermont. So I'm on the e-mailing list and I get a heads-up when something special's happening at Twitters - like a bus trip to the Vermont Flower Show or a seasonal sale extravaganza. I've got a lovely flat tray barn type seed feeder and shepherd's hook from the shop. I found wonderful seeds for the flower and vegetable garden - they're going into the cold frame soon. And, I've got designs on a very special hummingbird feeder that I plan to purchase this year to add to the garden near the hot tub and deck.

If you're living within an hour of south central Vermont, or visiting at any time year round near Rutland, make it a point to stop in at Mr. Twitter's Garden and Gift Emporium. You'll find something for everyone - gardeners, bird lovers, fashionistas - and all sorts of edible treats and Vermont-crafted gifts and gewgaws.

Every Little Stitch Counts

I've been working on a free embroidery project that's nearly completed. It's my latest custom decorated denim jacket, this one for my grandson who turned 2 years old on 2/2 - yep, his birthday is on Ground Hog Day. I've been working on this project for almost a year. Hand stitchery takes time, especially when you're working on the project like a painting - no design pattern, just inspiration.

I have a bit more artwork to add to the right side - possibly another smaller animal friend to join the smiling 4 season woodchuck. The design is based on a clip art graphic I created last year for Sawyer's 1st birthday. This denim jacket will be ready to roll as soon as the snow melts in NH.

Another Birthday, Another Chocolate Cake

I celebrated yet another birthday this past weekend, and it turned out to be quite a nice one. The day started off with a surprise package on the doorstep for Saturday delivery - chocolate truffles from DD#1 Trish and family. Next: the mail arrived with a birthday card from childhood friend and pal, Barb. Then, a special dinner at 8 - table for two at Judy's on Cherry - complete with a French martini. Next, back home for dessert: made from scratch chocolate cake with dark fudge frosting. This is the absolute best chocolate cake in the world, baked and frosted by my sweetheart husband the Renaissance man, Doug. Finally, a birthday"PING" on my cell phone announcing text message birthday wishes and love from DD#2, Bekah. But it didn't end there. Step-daughter Jocelyn rang me up the next night with Happy Birthday wishes.

It's enough to carry me forth for another 364 days. Thanks, everyone, for remembering me. And thanks, Doug, for only putting 21 candles on top. I got 'em all out in one big puff!

Table for 1 Wine Cork Craft

We got a lovely bottle of bubbly for the holidays, and just this weekend decided to pop the cork and enjoy the sweet Asti inside. I decided to impress Doug with my talent for recycling the cork and wire fastener into a mouse-sized bistro set. Now we need another bottle so I can make the other chair and change this to a cozy table for 2 in time for Valentine's Day.
